Its kind of sad and Kitty has no idea what happened, but it seems her ClustrMap data is gone... AGAIN.... So as of 1 Nov 2015, the map is clear again but Kitty is counting on you to mark your spots here soon.

Hiding away the Library from your Inventory

Here is how you hide the Library:

1. Select World > Show > Advanced Menu to enable the Advanced Menu.
2. Choose Advanced > Show Debug Settings.
3. Type noinventoryLibrary.
4. Select TRUE.
5. Close the Debug Settings window and restart the Viewer

Blocking Quickware and Redzone

Quickware and Redzone are 2 popular Alt Detector in Secondlife. Its purpose is to perform task which is otherwise not permited by normal viewers. However the method that they had deployed had clearly violated the terms and condition of Secondlife as well as the privacy of individual and as a result is banned.

So, what did they do so badly that the item deserve a ban? They bascially track IP address in order to determine if 2 avi are from the same owner. However IP address is not something which Secondlife should be revealing. As such, I suspected they had used server to ping the clients or trying to initial a media streaming in order to illegally obtain the IP address of the targets without permission.

I love streaming, but to enjoy streams, you will find that you need to actually reveal some information, which IP address had to be one so that the source streaming server can directly connect to you to deliver streams. These devices had killed the fun though.

Although the item had been banned and in fact the Redzone writer had been put into jail for laws involving the violation of privacy, such device may still exist and you never know if someone is trying to scan you. Actually sometimes you do. When you have a strange media stream request which you did not initials, it is likely it.

For those who knows how to set youre firewall, simply ban the following domains and you should be able to stream without fear of these products stealing information from you.

Or simply enough, put these into your hosts.etc file and point these to 127.0.0.1 and you are ok. But bare in mind that access to these location will then be denied for you too as well.

Once Broken, Considered Thrown

The Search widget provided by Blogspot never did work on the blog, no matter how hard I tried to make it so. In the end, I concluded that this is one of those bridge you won't ever consider crossing since it is broken. So out goes the windows for the widget!

I got hold of another widget and manage to post a simple red search box about for searching on this blog. Free feel to make use of it!

Sending IM Off World With Email

I have the problem of not being able to access Secondlife from my office because it was blocked and as such, nothing of the messenger actually works due to the required ports are blocked by firewall. However, I had found a rather undocumented way to get still receive and send IM even without logging in world to Secondlife.

This is what you need. You will need a email and a email client or a web browser if your email supports webmail.

Step 1. Logging into your Secondlife account with your browser and selecting "Contact Information" on the left.

Step 2.  Set up your email in Secondlife and enable " I would like to receive offline IMs via Email". Make sure you have your email here. 

Step 3. Ask you friend to send you a IM when you are offline. Check your email using you browser (Hotmail, Gmail etc All of theses has Web access) or using Outlook as per normal how you receive email. For example in Gmail, you will see an email like this.

Note the long string @ something.lindenlab.com. This string is unique to the user and it is a type of session ID. When the user log in at different time, it may change.

Step 4. Simply reply to this email. Please remove any auto quote so that the IM doesn't become too huge for your poor friend. When your friend reply, another similar email will come again as in Step 3. Continue as necessary.

Well, isn't that simple? I am sure this information is publish somewhere, but I just did not find it online. Maybe some kind soul can past me the link. Meanwhile, enjoy IMing you friends using your email!

Offline IM from SecondLife (Test)

If you see this post, please just go to my name in your friend's list and send me a IM even though I am offline. This helps me in a test to work out a way to send and receive IM via emails.... Thanks.

Added Twitter to Follow Me

I had added a Twitter gadget for following this blog to the side on the right in blue. If you do not see it, then you must still be using IE6. Time for an upgrade, pal. :)

I do not know if I will be actively using Twitter, but I had just posted too quickly by clicking it twice and my account was suspended. WTF. But according to them, it should be restored in an hour or so.

Do give me a feedback on what else you think I should be adding here.

New Layout New Options

I had been updating the design of the blog to add a side bar for searching and subscribing by email. Well I also notice I had not labeling my posts so far and this could be a problem on the long run. I should go back to labeling so that it can be found easily next time...

Anyway, do you need other way to follow on this blog beside email? There are Facebook and Twitter too... Well if you want it, do drop me a email and I will see what I can do about it.
